Two needles. No haystack.
You appear only to the people nearby looking for someone like you, and they appear only to you.

The kind of searches people run
Examples of who a search can turn up, any purpose, as long as it’s mutual. These scenarios are invented and the pictures are AI-generated: no real members, no real names.

Searched for a babysitter for three boys under ten.
Found Rosa, a grandmother two streets over who raised four of her own.

How it works
- 1
Say who you're looking for
A running partner for early mornings. A doubles partner around your age. Someone to practise Spanish with. Save a search for each, in your own words.
- 2
Say who you are
Each search carries a short note about you for the people it will reach. A quick chat with the assistant drafts it; you approve it. It matters, because their search has to fit you too.
- 3
See who fits both ways
Your map shows someone only when your search fits them and theirs fits you, each with a match score and one line on why. Tap a pin to say hello.
A map, not a feed
Nothing to scroll, nothing to swipe. Open it and see who is around you right now.
Your exact location stays private
Pins sit a few blocks from where people really are. MootsMap never shows anyone your true position.
Questions people ask
- What is MootsMap?
- MootsMap is a map that shows you the people nearby who fit what you are looking for, and who are looking for someone like you. You save a search in your own words, such as a running partner for early mornings or a babysitter for three boys, and describe yourself for the people that search will reach. Only mutual fits appear.
- What does "moots" mean?
- Moots is short for mutuals: on Instagram and TikTok, the people who follow you back. MootsMap is a map of your mutuals: people nearby whose search fits you while yours fits them.
- Is MootsMap a dating app?
- No. It is for finding any kind of person nearby for any purpose: a tennis partner, a mentor, a dog walker, a language exchange, new friends after a move. Some people do meet someone that way, but dating is not what the map is built or marketed for, and there is no swiping.
- How does the matching work?
- Each search and each description is turned into an embedding with an open model running inside the app, and a match score from 0 to 100 says how well two people fit each other's searches. You set a cutoff on a slider; people below it are hidden. A person appears on your map only when your search fits them and one of their searches fits you, both cutoffs included. That rule is called the Mutual Match Shield.
- Can strangers see where I live?
- No. Your exact location never leaves the server. Other people see your pin a few blocks from where you really are, at a stable offset, and distances are rounded. Only people you mutually match with see your pin at all.
- What does it cost?
- Joining is free. A free account holds two active searches and can start five new conversations a day. Member accounts have unlimited searches and conversations, can search another area, and can see who has them on their map. The Offering tier adds up to three offers, which are searches in reverse, such as "I coach beginner runners". Prices are not set yet.
- Where is MootsMap available?
- It opens city by city, when enough people in a place ask for it. Anyone in the United States can join the waitlist with an email address and ZIP code and will be told when their area opens.
- Who can use MootsMap?
- Adults 18 and over. Sign-in is by a code emailed to you, or with a Google account; there are no passwords. Every profile photo is screened automatically before it is shown, and there is a report button on every profile and conversation.
